The Washington, D.C., employment law firm of Michael J. Hoare, P.C., and is dedicated to protecting the rights of those men and women victimized by harassment in the workplace. The firm represents clients from throughout the District of Columbia metropolitan area (D.C. and Maryland).

Workplace sexual harassment often falls into one of two categories.  One form, commonly known as “quid pro quo,” (“this for that”) occurs when unwelcome sexual advances are accompanied by promises of advancement opportunities, or other positive employment actions or threats of termination, demotion, or other negative employment actions.  A second form of sexual harassment is commonly known as “hostile work environment” harassment, whereby the employee is subjected to physical touching and/or  verbal sexual comments and activities at work that are so offensive that they create a truly “hostile” work environment.  Please remember that these are generalizations - there are few hard and fast rules in this area of law.

Harassment in the workplace is not limited to that motivated by sex.  Harassment because of one’s race, sex, age, national origin, religion, disability, and sexual orientation is also prohibited.
