A TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESS

Most of our cases start in the conference room in conversation between one of the firm’s attorneys and an anxious prospective client with an employment problem.  During the consultation, both the attorney and the client arrive at a course of action intended to address the client’s employment problem.  The course of action may require negotiation with a present or former employer, filing a charge of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the D.C. Office of Human Rights, one of  Maryland’s human rights offices, or filing a lawsuit in one of the federal or state courthouses in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia.

It is often in the client’s best interest that her matter be addressed in negotiation and without litigation.  Some objectives are more easily obtained through negotiation than litigation.

VERDICTS

We have recently obtained significant verdicts in the courtroom.  For example:

    •    Jury verdict of $1.3 million in sexual harassment case against a construction company whose executive officer sexually harassed our female client causing her to abandon her successful executive position with the company.  The trial judge awarded an additional $294,632 for attorney’s fees and expenses.

    •    Jury verdict of $812,000 in a sexual harassment case against a powerful female lobbyist who sexually harassed our male client and fired him after he complained about the harassment.  On top of this valuable judgment, the judge has ordered that the defendant pay our client's attorneys' fees, which total over $440,000.

    •    Jury verdict in favor of our client against a local health care institution for wrongfully terminating her employment after she sued it alleging that she was sexually harassed at work.

SETTLEMENTS

Litigation is not necessary in every case we file in the courthouse.  Many cases are resolved through negotiation and/or more formal mediation via private and/or court appointed mediators.

We have recently achieved resolution, including six-figure settlements in many instances.  We have achieved such success in claims involving:

    •    a claim of race discrimination/retaliation in a case involving termination against a large public employer

    •    a claim of race discrimination in a case involving a failure to promote against the federal government

    •    claims of race discrimination by multiple employees in a case against a large federal contractor operating in Kuwait

    •    claims of sex discrimination by multiple employees in a case against a large public employer

    •    claims of sexual harassment by female supervisors of male subordinates

    •    claims of sexual harassment by male supervisors of male subordinates

     •   claims of sexual harassment by male supervisors of female subordinates

    •   a claim of discrimination because of national origin against a large automobile dealership.
